Pouding chômeur is said to have been created by Georgette Falardeau, wife of Camilien Houde who was Montréal's Mayor at the time, to help the industrial workers' wives bring a little comfort to their husbands who had lost their jobs. The products used where cheap, like flour, butter, milk and brown sugar (cheaper than sugar at the time) and it became a classic in our cooking in Québec
